Kenya Met lists counties set for rain as dry spell grips most parts of Kenya
The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has forecast dry conditions across most parts of the country, with only a few counties expected to receive rainfall during the latest forecast period.
In its weather advisory, the department said much of Kenya will remain dry, although parts of Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu, Nyeri, Uasin Gishu, Baringo, Narok, Kericho and Nakuru counties are likely to experience rainfall.
The forecast indicates that the showers will be isolated, with the dry spell expected to persist in most other regions of the country.
“Dry conditions expected across the country. Some parts of Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu, Nyeri, Uasin Gishu, Baringo, Narok, Kericho and Nakuru may receive rainfall,” Kenya Met stated.

Strong winds
Besides the dry conditions, Kenya Met has also warned of strong southerly to southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 metres per second) over parts of Garissa, Wajir, Marsabit and Turkana counties.
“Strong southerly to southeasterly winds of above 25 knots (12.5 m/s) are expected over parts of Garissa, Wajir, Marsabit and Turkana Counties,” the weatherman added.
Hot temperature
Additionally, Kenya Met said hot daytime conditions are expected in several parts of the country.
The counties likely to record average maximum temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius include Kilifi, Lamu, Tana River, Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Isiolo, Marsabit, Turkana and Samburu.
“Hot daytime conditions are expected in some parts of the country during the forecast period,” Kenya Met added.
“Counties likely to experience average maximum temperatures above 30°C: Kilifi, Lamu, Tana River, Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Isiolo, Marsabit, Turkana and Samburu.”

Among the hottest towns in the forecast are Mandera and Lodwar, which are both expected to record maximum temperatures of 36°C, followed by Garissa at 34°C and Wajir at 33°C.
Other towns expected to experience high daytime temperatures include Voi at 32°C, Kakamega, Kisumu and Lamu at 31°C, while Mombasa is forecast to reach 30°C. Nairobi is expected to record a relatively cooler daytime maximum of 27°C.
Residents in areas expected to experience hot weather have been advised to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during the hottest hours of the day.
“Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, especially during the afternoon, and take extra care of children, the elderly and livestock during hot daytime conditions,” Kenya Met advised.
