Kenya Met predicts generally dry weather in 7-day update

The Kenya Meteorological Department has released its latest seven-day weather forecast, detailing what Kenyans should expect between July 2, 2026, and July 9, 2026.

The update points to a week of contrasting weather, with several areas facing chilly morning skies and light rainfall while other regions stay clear.

In the weekly summary, the weather department noted that “most parts of the country are likely to be generally dry” during this period. However, regional variations mean specific areas will still experience the typical July chill and localized showers.

Rainfall patterns in Western and Central regions

People living in Western Kenya, Nyanza, and parts of the Rift Valley should keep their umbrellas close.

Counties such as Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Kisumu, Kisii, and Kericho will experience regular afternoon showers. The forecast maps show cumulative rainfall in these areas hovering between 1 mm and 20 mm throughout the seven days.

In Central Kenya, including Nairobi, Kiambu, Murang’a, and Nyeri, the weather will be characterised by typical cold-season conditions. These areas will experience intermittent cool and cloudy conditions, especially during the early morning hours.

While heavy downpours are unlikely in the capital, the persistent cloud cover means temperatures will remain low, forcing commuters to layer up before leaving the house. Similar cool patches will affect sections of the southeastern lowlands.

Increased moisture along the Coast and North East

The weather pattern will change noticeably for the coastal strip and northeastern Kenya during the second half of the week. From July 2, 2026, to July 5, 2026, coastal towns like Mombasa, Malindi, and Lamu will enjoy mostly clear and dry conditions.

This will change from July 6, 2026, through to July 9, 2026, as rain-bearing clouds move inland from the Indian Ocean.

The forecast maps indicate an increase in rainfall over Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, and Lamu, with the wet weather extending into Tana River, Garissa, Wajir, and Mandera.

Residents in these eastern areas should prepare for wetter conditions towards the end of the forecast period.
