EPRA reduces diesel price by Ksh5 per litre in August-September review

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has reduced the price of diesel by Ksh5 per litre in its latest monthly fuel prices review, while the prices of Super Petrol and Kerosene will remain unchanged.
In an announcement on Friday, August 14, 2026, EPRA said the new prices will take effect from midnight on August 15, 2026, and remain in force until September 14, 2026.
In Nairobi, Super Petrol will continue to retail at Ksh214.03 per litre, while Diesel will cost Ksh217.86 per litre. Kerosene will remain at Ksh191.38 per litre.
“In the period under review, the maximum allowed petroleum pump prices for Diesel decreased by KShs.5.00 per litre while the price of Super Petrol and Kerosene remain unchanged due to additional Government Stabilisation Support Measures of KShs.938 million,” EPRA noted.
Diesel price drops
According to EPRA, the maximum retail price of Diesel has been reduced by Ksh5 per litre during the latest review period.
The reduction will offer some relief to motorists, businesses and transport operators who rely heavily on diesel for vehicles and machinery.
However, Super Petrol and Kerosene prices have remained unchanged despite the reduction in the diesel price.
EPRA attributed the decision to additional Government Stabilisation Support Measures amounting to Ksh938 million.
New fuel prices in Nairobi
Under the new pricing structure, motorists in Nairobi will pay Ksh214.03 per litre for Super Petrol, Ksh217.86 for Diesel and Ksh191.38 for Kerosene.
The prices vary across the country depending on transportation and distribution costs, meaning consumers in other counties will pay different maximum retail prices.
The latest review was conducted in accordance with Section 101(y) of the Petroleum Act, 2019 and Legal Notice No. 192 of 2022.
Prices include taxes
EPRA said the announced prices include Value Added Tax (VAT), in line with the applicable tax laws and regulations.
The authority noted that the prices also take into account the revised excise duty rates adjusted for inflation.
The new rates replace those that were in force between July 15 and August 14. During that previous cycle, Nairobi motorists paid Ksh214.03 for Super Petrol, Ksh222.86 for Diesel and Ksh191.38 for Kerosene.
