Kamba celebrities hold emotional memorial after death of Benga artiste Solo Sita

Kamba musicians, media personalities and hundreds of fans gathered at Kifaru Lounge in Nairobi’s South B estate on Friday, July 10, 2026, for an emotional memorial service held in honour of celebrated Kamba benga artiste and guitarist Solo Sita, who passed away last week after a prolonged illness.
The memorial brought together members of the Kamba entertainment fraternity to celebrate the life and musical legacy of the revered guitarist, whose contribution to Kamba benga music earned him admiration from fans across the country.
At the entrance of Kifaru Lounge, mourners were welcomed by a large memorial banner bearing Solo Sita’s portrait alongside details of his birth and death, creating a sombre atmosphere as guests streamed into the venue.
Inside, the evening was marked by emotional moments as fellow musicians performed some of Solo Sita’s most popular songs, with many attendees singing along while remembering the late artiste’s influence on the Kamba music industry.
Several prominent personalities from the Kamba entertainment scene attended the memorial, including media personality Katumbi, who kept fans updated throughout the evening by sharing photos and videos from the event on his Facebook page.
The gathering also provided an opportunity for colleagues, friends and supporters to pay tribute to a man many described as one of the most gifted solo guitarists in the Kamba music industry.
Solo Sita died on Friday, July 3, 2026, while receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) after battling a chronic illness that had seen him admitted to hospital on several occasions over the years.

Although his family has not publicly disclosed the exact illness he was suffering from, the musician had experienced recurring health complications that frequently required specialised medical care.
His deteriorating condition had prompted repeated fundraising efforts from friends, fellow musicians and fans, who came together on several occasions to help offset his mounting medical expenses.
Among those who consistently rallied support for him was vernacular entertainment figure DJ Biado, who regularly updated the public on Solo Sita’s condition, organised fundraising drives and accompanied him during several hospital visits.
Despite the support, the veteran guitarist’s health worsened, leading to his final admission at KNH, where he succumbed while undergoing treatment.
Solo Sita was widely celebrated for his exceptional guitar skills, with many regarding him as one of the finest solo guitarists in Kamba benga music.
His signature guitar melodies featured prominently in numerous songs and collaborations, including performances alongside legendary Kamba benga musician Newton Karish, helping shape the distinctive sound that defined the genre for many years.
News of his death triggered an outpouring of grief across social media, with fans, fellow musicians and public figures remembering him as a humble, talented and influential artiste whose music touched generations of listeners.
