R&B superstar Ne-Yo returns to Nairobi after 11 years: Tickets, date and everything to know

R&B superstar Ne-Yo is returning to Nairobi after 11 years for a special daytime concert set to take place on Mashujaa Day.

The three-time Grammy Award winner will headline “One Night Only: Brunch Edition” on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, with organisers promising a first-of-its-kind live brunch experience for Nairobi.

The announcement was made on Thursday, September 10, 2026, through the official One Night Only Kenya account, with tickets set to go on sale on Saturday, September 12, 2026.

Unlike previous One Night Only editions, the Ne-Yo show will be a daytime brunch concert, combining a live music experience with a more relaxed social setting.

The exact venue and full programme are yet to be announced.

According to the event poster, tickets will be available from Ksh7,500 for Early Bird Gold, while regular Gold tickets will cost Ksh15,000. Fans looking for the premium experience will pay Ksh40,000 for Platinum tickets.

The organisers have indicated that tickets will be limited and will be available through TicketYetu.

What fans can expect

The Nairobi show comes as part of a busy run of performances for Ne-Yo in October. He is scheduled to perform in Cape Town on October 17 and Pretoria on October 18, before heading to Nairobi for the Mashujaa Day event.

Recent performances on his 2026 tour have featured some of his biggest songs, including “Closer,” “Because of You,” “Sexy Love,” “So Sick” and “Miss Independent,” alongside newer material.

The Nairobi edition will offer a different setting from the conventional late-night concert, bringing Ne-Yo’s catalogue to fans during a daytime brunch on a public holiday.

For Kenyan R&B fans, it will be a chance to sing along to some of the biggest love songs and club anthems of the 2000s this time, in a brunch setting.

Ne-Yo’s return to Nairobi

Ne-Yo, born Shaffer Chimere Smith, last visited Kenya in August 2015 when he appeared on the third season of Coke Studio Africa.

During that visit, he collaborated with Kenyan rapper Wangechi, Tanzania’s Ali Kiba, Uganda’s Maurice Kirya and Nigeria’s Ice Prince. He also took part in a meet-and-greet and spent time enjoying Nairobi’s nightlife.

Although he later performed a full concert in Kampala, Nairobi has not hosted him for a headline show since his 2015 visit.

His return therefore marks more than a decade since Kenyan fans last saw the American hitmaker perform in the country.

A hitmaker with a massive catalogue

Ne-Yo became a global star with his 2006 debut album In My Own Words, which featured the chart-topping hit “So Sick.”

The song became a major international success and topped the Billboard Hot 100, establishing Ne-Yo as one of the defining male voices of 2000s pop and R&B.

His catalogue also includes “Sexy Love,” “Because of You,” “Closer,” “Miss Independent,” “Mad,” “One in a Million”, and “Time of Our Lives.”

Beyond his own music, Ne-Yo is also an accomplished songwriter, with credits including Beyoncé’s “Irreplaceable” and songs recorded by Rihanna.

With three Grammy Awards and a string of international hits, he remains one of the most recognisable male R&B and pop performers of the 21st century.
