Kamba singer Solo Sita buried in emotional Makueni send-off

Celebrated Kamba benga musician and guitarist Solo Sita, born Boniface Kioko Kyambu, was laid to rest on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, during an emotional burial ceremony at his rural home in Kambu, Makueni County, bringing together family, fellow musicians, media personalities and hundreds of fans who turned up to pay their final respects.
The sombre send-off began early in the morning at Kenyatta National Hospital Funeral Home, where family members and mourners received his body before proceeding to Makindu Shopping Centre and later to his ancestral home in Kambu for the final funeral rites.
According to the burial programme, mourners gathered for opening prayers, the reading of his eulogy, a church service, tributes, speeches, a vote of thanks and a procession to the graveside before the final rites and laying of wreaths.
Several well-known figures from the Kamba entertainment industry attended the burial to honour the late musician, among them media personality Katumbi, singer and dancer Ndeke ya Muthanga, DJ Biado, Kana Niccoh, Kinara and Ututi wa Kyuma, alongside dozens of fellow artistes and fans who had followed Solo Sita’s musical journey over the years.
The emotional ceremony came just days after musicians and fans held a memorial service in his honour at Kifaru Lounge in Nairobi’s South B estate, where colleagues celebrated the immense contribution he made to Kamba benga music.
One of the most touching moments during the burial came through a heartfelt tribute written by his children, who described their late father as God’s gift and thanked him for every sacrifice he made while raising them.
The children said they still remembered watching him leave home for work with a smile despite life’s many challenges, adding that although they wished they had spent more time with him, they had accepted God’s will.
They said they would forever cherish the lessons he taught them both through his words and his actions, promising never to forget the man they proudly called their father.
“Thank you for being our dad. Thank you for everything. We will always love you. You will never be forgotten. Until we meet again, rest in peace Dad,” part of the tribute read.

The eulogy traced Solo Sita’s life from his birth on January 20, 1977, to the late Mary Muve Kamba, noting that he was the firstborn son in a family of five and grew up in Makueni before pursuing his education in local primary schools.
Beyond family life, the eulogy painted the picture of a gifted musician whose passion for the guitar emerged at a very young age before eventually becoming the talent that would define his career.
After completing primary school, Solo Sita pursued music in Mombasa, Nairobi and other parts of the country, where he became widely respected for his extraordinary guitar skills, eventually earning the nickname “Solo Sita.”
Throughout his career, he worked with both established and upcoming musicians, contributing his distinctive guitar melodies to countless recordings that helped shape the sound of Kamba benga music.
Besides collaborating with numerous artistes, he also recorded several albums under Kyutu Boys Band, including a gospel album, while building a loyal following through his love for benga and orchestra music.
The eulogy further noted that in his later years he continued sharing musical renditions on his YouTube channel and TikTok page, expressing hope that one of his children would one day inherit his musical gift and preserve the family’s legacy.
His family also recounted the health challenges that marked the final years of his life.
According to the eulogy, Solo Sita was involved in a serious road accident in 2018, leaving him hospitalised for months before he partially recovered after receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital.
Although he survived the crash, the injuries left him battling recurring complications that frequently forced him back into hospital.
The family revealed that repeated medical complications eventually led to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), making breathing increasingly difficult and forcing close friends, relatives and fans to help purchase a portable oxygen concentrator for use at home whenever his condition worsened.
His final hospital admission came on June 27, 2026, after he complained of severe headaches and body pains.
According to the family, his condition deteriorated rapidly over the following days before doctors began preparing to transfer him to the Intensive Care Unit as his blood pressure continued dropping.
Despite efforts by medical personnel to save him, Solo Sita succumbed to multiple organ failure on the night of July 2, before his death was announced the following day.
