TikToker Derrick Omollo’s burial date and final send-off details announced

The burial arrangements for the late JKUAT TikToker Derrick Omollo have been announced as his family prepares for his final send-off.

According to an announcement shared by his friend, Director Jabez, on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, Derrick will be laid to rest on Friday, September 18, 2026, at Marani, Kitu Chache, in North Constituency, Kisii County.

His body is expected to leave General Kago Funeral Home on the morning of Thursday, September 17, and proceed to Kisii, where family and friends will gather ahead of the burial the following day.

“On Thursday, 17th September 2026, the body will leave General Kago Funeral Home in the morning and proceed to Kisii, where family and friends will gather ahead of the burial the following day,” the announcement stated.

According to Director Jabez’s announcement, more details about the funeral programme will be released in due course.

The announcement comes at a time when the family has been seeking financial support to facilitate Derrick’s postmortem and funeral arrangements.

Speaking on Sunday, September 6, 2026, Derrick’s father appealed to friends, relatives and well-wishers to support the family financially as they prepared to take his son’s remains home.

The father said the family was facing a financial shortfall, with some of their resources already committed to school-related expenses. He urged well-wishers to contribute whatever they could afford.

“When you add one shilling to another, it becomes two, and that will help us,” he said.

Derrick’s father also said the family was preparing for a postmortem to help establish the circumstances surrounding his son’s death.

He said the family had not yet raised enough money to meet the costs associated with the procedure and renewed his appeal for financial assistance.

“Whatever you have, if you can help us with it, it will assist us,” he said.

How Derrick died

Derrick died after falling into a quarry while attempting to flee from thugs who had attacked him and his friends.

His friend and fellow TikToker Mildred confirmed his death on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

According to Mildred, Derrick was among five people who were out for a walk when they were confronted by thugs. The group attempted to flee, with Derrick reportedly running towards the quarry as he tried to escape.

He later died following the fall, leaving family, friends, fellow students and his online followers mourning his death.
