Fitness influencer Gachau Njoroge has opened up about his views on religion, spirituality, and personal belief, revealing that he does not believe in God despite growing up in a Christian environment.

Speaking during a podcast shared on his Instagram page on August 17, 2026, Gachau explained that his journey has been shaped by years of questioning, exploring different ideas and trying to understand life from his own perspective.

Gachau says he does not identify with religion

During the discussion, Gachau was asked a direct question about whether he believed in God. He responded by saying that he did not. Gachau explained that he viewed himself as a spiritual person rather than someone who followed organised religion.

He went on to share his perspective on religion and spirituality. “Religion is control. Spirituality is taking control,” Gachau said. He explained that his beliefs had changed over time and that his current views were the result of years of reflection and personal growth.

His beliefs changed over time

According to Gachau, his spiritual journey has not followed one clear path. He revealed that there was a period when he considered himself agnostic and another when he identified as an atheist before eventually settling into a more spiritual outlook.

He explained that he no longer sees God in the traditional sense but instead associates spirituality with awareness and consciousness. “There was a time I was agnostic, and there was a time I was an atheist. At the end of the day, you realise that God is consciousness and awareness,” he explained.

He also said that his beliefs were influenced by his experiences and his willingness to question ideas that had been presented to him while growing up.

Growing up in a Christian home

During the conversation, the host pointed out that many Kenyans are raised in Christian households. Gachau acknowledged that background, explaining that he still attends church on some occasions despite not identifying with traditional religious beliefs.

He also shared that he had explored practices from different faiths, including Islam. According to him, understanding different traditions allowed him to learn from a variety of perspectives. However, he maintained that personal experiences played a bigger role in shaping his beliefs than any particular religious institution.

As the discussion continued, Gachau encouraged people to question ideas and seek answers for themselves. He argued that belief should be a personal choice rather than something imposed by society. “People forget one thing: they never created you. They can’t decide what it is you should believe,” Gachau said.
