Obinna awards Gachau Njoroge Ksh50,000 bonus after Vurugu 2 defeat
Media personality and Comedian Oga Obinna has awarded bodybuilder Gachau Njoroge a personal bonus of Sh50,000 following his participation at Vurugu 2, the highly publicised boxing event that was held at Sarit Centre.
The gesture comes days after Gachau suffered a sixth-round technical knockout defeat to Phil Fidel during one of the most anticipated matches of the night. Despite missing out on the winner’s prize, Obinna said Gachau deserved recognition for the effort he put into promoting the event before stepping into the ring.
Recognition beyond the result
Speaking on the Obinna Show on Monday, June 22, 2026, Obinna explained that the bonus was not based on the outcome of the fight but on Gachau’s contribution to making Vurugu 2 a success.
According to the event organiser, Gachau played a major role in building excitement around the match through his consistent online presence and collaborations with content creators.
“I will give you a bonus of Ksh 50,000 because you know automatically you will not get that one million because you didn’t win. But personally, I will reward you with Ksh 50,000 to thank you for what you did,” Obinna said.

He noted that among all the participants, Gachau stood out for the amount of effort he invested in marketing the event. “The reason I’m rewarding you is that in Vurugu 2, you marketed it well. You were the Mbavu Destroyer of Vurugu 2. You outdid everyone in marketing it,” he said.
Event attracts huge online audience
The promotion surrounding the fight helped attract significant online attention, with thousands of viewers tuning in to watch the event. Obinna revealed that the Vurugu 2 livestream reached 70,000 concurrent viewers on YouTube, numbers that reflected the public interest generated before the fight.
The rivalry between the fighters, combined with Gachau’s regular social media updates, contributed to the growing anticipation in the days leading up to the event.
Gachau shares health update
Following the knockout loss, Gachau was rushed to hospital for medical attention. He was later discharged after undergoing several tests, including a CT scan, ultrasound and X-ray.
Speaking after leaving hospital, he assured supporters that he was recovering well and that doctors had ruled out any serious complications. “I’m fine. I’m almost getting there. Unfortunately, yesterday was not our night,” he said.

The bodybuilder also took time to thank his opponent and the organisers for the opportunity. “Big up to the champ, Mr Fidel, and big up to Obinna Studios for setting us up. You were amazing,” he added.
Looking ahead after boxing
Medical examinations confirmed that his lungs were in good condition despite concerns raised after the fight.
“Everything is fine. I’ve done a CT scan. The CT scan has confirmed that it’s nothing serious. The X-ray has confirmed that the lungs are fine. There’s nothing to worry about,” he explained.
Although he received support following the event, Gachau has indicated that he will be stepping away from boxing and returning to bodybuilding. His next bodybuilding competition is expected to take place in October.
