Phil Fidel hands winner’s medal to Gachau in light exchange after Vurugu fight
Phil Fidel and fitness influencer Gachau Njoroge have reflected on what transpired during their intense six-round Vurugu 2 fight, which ended in a technical knockout victory for Fidel, as the two met two days after the bout in a light exchange and shared a hug, where Fidel, in a show of respect, presented Gachau with the winner’s medal.
In a TikTok video posted on Monday, June 22, 2026, the two offered a calmer reflection point after a contest that had already sparked online debate, especially over a moment in Round 6 where both fighters appeared to slow down and reset briefly inside the ring.

Fidel recalled the intensity of the fight, saying both competitors at some point had to step back due to exhaustion as the pace became difficult to sustain.
“Ilifika mahali tukaenda kwa corner, wanasema pigana, tunasema apana, tunaambiana ama tuende home. Ilikuwa noma walai,” he said.
Viral moment clarified
Gachau also addressed the viral moment, saying fans misread what happened in the ring, especially during the later rounds when fatigue had set in.

“Watu walikuwa wanasema nimekuwa friendly hadi naenda kwa kona yake, hawajui nimechoka hadi siwezi kurusha ngumi. Hata sijui nilikuwa niko wapi,” he said.
Despite the loss, he maintained that the experience remained a tough but memorable test in his fitness and combat journey.
Respect after fight
Fidel said the bout proved doubters wrong and stood out as one of the most exciting and entertaining fights of the night.
“Watu walikuwa wanasema tulikuwa tunaenda kumaliza round two, but we proved them wrong,” he said.
Fidel handed Gachau the winner’s medal in a light exchange, and the pair shared a hug, symbolising respect following a physically demanding contest.
Gachau had earlier confirmed that he was recovering after the fight, saying he had undergone multiple medical checks, including scans and X-rays, which ruled out any serious complications. He noted that doctors had flagged a small fluid area but reassured that his condition was stable and not severe.
