Gachau Njoroge gives health update after hospital discharge following Vurugu 2 fight

Fitness influencer Gachau Njoroge has given a health update after being discharged from the hospital following his Vurugu 2 fight, where he suffered a round six technical knockout loss to Phil Fidel.

Speaking on the afternoon of Sunday, June 21, 2026, after his discharge, Gachau said he was recovering and still processing the intensity of the fight.

“I’m fine. I’m almost getting there. Unfortunately, yesterday was not our night,” he said.

He added that despite the defeat, he remained respectful to his opponent and the organisers of the event.

“Big up to the champ, Mr Fidel, and big up to Obinna Studios for setting us up. You were amazing,” he said.

Medical checks

Gachau confirmed that he underwent multiple medical examinations, including a CT scan, ultrasound, and X-ray, following concerns raised after the fight.

“Everything is fine. I’ve done a CT scan. Ultrasound of the lungs… the CT scan has confirmed that it’s nothing serious. The X-ray has confirmed that the lungs are fine. There’s nothing to worry about,” he said.

Gachau said doctors, however, noted a small fluid area during the scan but ruled out any serious complications.

Respect in defeat

Despite the loss, Gachau maintained a light tone, joking with his opponent Phil while still acknowledging the outcome of the fight.

“Phil, congratulations. You’re the better man tonight. But remember, you’re still a cabbage head,” he said.

He later reflected on the nature of combat sports, saying every fight comes with either victory or defeat.

“Each time somebody gets into a ring, there are most likely two outcomes. You win, or you lose,” he said.

Gachau also hinted at continuing his fitness journey beyond boxing, suggesting he may return to bodybuilding competitions in the future as he shifts focus after Vurugu 2.

He confirmed he will continue training and staying active as he recovers from the bout.
