Alex Mwakideu: Women are tired of being sent on shopping trips without cash

Radio host Alex Mwakideu has said that women are tired of being sent on shopping trips without cash, only to be asked to use till numbers for payment.

On Friday, April 3, 2026, he explained that some men are not trusting their partners enough to give them shopping money directly. Instead, they send them to shops and ask them to send till numbers for payment.

He said this practice has become common in relationships, where a man sends his partner to do shopping but prefers to pay directly through a till number. He added that this has now led to frustration among women, who feel it would be easier to just go to the supermarket themselves.

He explained that the issue has been widely discussed in private conversations and online spaces.

“Kama wewe ni mtoto wa kike uko na boyfriend, yaani you are in a relationship with a man, anakutuma dukani, popote unapoenda, ifike mahali ya kulipa akuambie nitumie till number, wanawake wanaanza kusema enda mwenyewe sasa,” Alex Mwakideu said.

Till number shopping

Alex Mwakideu said women are now openly rejecting the idea of being sent to the shop without cash. He explained that many women have started telling their partners to go and do the shopping themselves if they insist on using till numbers.

He said the situation has led to many direct messages from people reacting to his comments. He explained that both men and women have been sharing their views on the matter. He added that the debate shows how trust plays a role in simple daily activities like shopping.

“Kama utaniambia, nikutumie till number. Sasa wameingia katika DM wengi,” he said.

Alex Mwakideu added that women are clearly expressing their frustration over the issue. He explained that many feel it would be easier if men handled the shopping themselves instead of relying on digital payment instructions.

He said that if there is trust, men should be able to give cash for shopping without hesitation.

“Ladies have spoken; no more sending numbers!!! If you can trust them with cash, nenda mwenyewe supermarket,” Alex Mwakideu said.
