Salasya hopeful that justice will be served in murder of Albert Ojwang’

Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has expressed hopes that justice may prevail in the inquiry into the murder of teacher and blogger Albert Ojwang’.
In a statement on Sunday, June 15, 2025, Salasya indicated that reports of the arrest of individuals who may have been in the cell together with Ojwang’ on the night of his murder rekindle some hope that justice may be served.
“I wish to sincerely thank the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) for stepping up and rearresting individuals who were in custody with Albert on that fateful day. This action rekindles some hope that justice will not be derailed, no matter how powerful those involved may be,” Salasya remarked.

He equally questioned the disconnection of CCTV and the wiping of the DVR tapes with information that could be critical in cracking the case.
“Who has access to the Office of the OCS at Nairobi Central Police Station, where the CCTV drive is kept? How could such sensitive evidence be removed or go missing without the knowledge or authorisation of the OCS himself?” Salasya posed.
“These are serious questions that demand urgent and transparent answers. I am now beginning to believe the statements issued by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) regarding possible obstruction or tampering within the station.”

The vocal MP has also appealed to the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to ensure the safety of the individuals arrested in connection with the murder.
“I also call upon IPOA to move swiftly and arrest the three police officers who presented Albert at Mbagathi Hospital. Their role is central to unravelling what really happened. IPOA must also ensure the security of everyone mentioned in this case, be they witnesses, whistleblowers, or officers, until justice is fully served,” Salasya said.

“Let us not allow this case to be swept under the carpet. The spirit of Albert calls for truth, transparency, and justice, nothing less.”
The case, which began with the arrest of Ojwang’ from his rural home in Kabondo-Kasipul on June 7, 2025, has generated immense public interest, with activists having participated in a protest to agitate for the resignation of Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat, who was the complainant in Ojwang’s case.
IPOA are working on a tight schedule after the Director of Public Prosecutions gave them less than seven days to conclude investigations into the murder.
