Police recover 135 stolen car number plates in Kariobangi crackdown

Police officers from Buruburu and Dandora Police Stations have recovered a stash of at least one hundred and thirty-five suspected stolen motor vehicle registrations in a crackdown in Kariobangi South.

In a post on the National Police Service’s official X account on Saturday, December 6, 2025, the police confirmed that the multi-led operations were handled in Kariobangi South.

“Yesterday, police officers in the Nairobi Region successfully recovered a large cache of suspected stolen motor vehicle registration plates during an operation in Kariobangi South,” NPS said.

At the time, the officers, acting on credible information from members of the public, raided a residential house believed to have been used for the illegal processing and storage of vehicle identification materials.

The officers confirmed that during the operation the officers seized 34 complete registration plates, 67 incomplete (mixed front and rear) plates, 34 half-cut plates.

In addition, officers recovered three rolls of chassis number stickers, one roll of blue iron sheeting, two rolls of white and yellow reflective sheets, and various number plate frames.

According to Police the items are suspected to have been used in the manufacture and alteration of vehicle licence plates.

The officers further added that the key person of interest, also connected to the premises, narrowly escaped and is currently being pursued.

“All recovered items have been secured as exhibits pending identification and further forensic analysis. The National Police Service commends the vigilance of the officers, and notes that the cooperation of members of the public contributed to this successful operation,” NPS confirmed.

The National Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to combating vehicle-related crime, including the falsification of registration numbers and the trafficking of stolen motor vehicle parts.
