Nandy: Zuchu and I have no reason to hate each other

Tanzanian Bongo Flava singer Nandy has addressed speculation surrounding her relationship with fellow singer Zuchu, saying the two have no reason to dislike each other despite both being among the leading female artists in Tanzania.
Nandy spoke during the celebration of Diamond Platnumz and Zuchu’s daughter reaching 40 days on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Tegeta Madale in Dar es Salaam.
The event brought together members of the two families, friends, and other guests as they marked the milestone and officially revealed the name of the couple’s daughter.
Nandy addresses Zuchu ‘beef’ claims
For some time, Nandy and Zuchu’s relationship has attracted interest from fans, particularly because both artists have established themselves in the Tanzanian music industry.
Their occasional public interactions have also led to questions about whether there is tension between the two singers.
During an interview at the ceremony, Nandy was asked about the perception that she and Zuchu have a rivalry because they are both successful artists. She, however, dismissed the idea that their recent interactions were meant to prove anything to the public.
“No, we weren’t trying to prove anything to anyone. Here, we are just real; we know how we connect when we meet because we run into each other a lot off-camera, at studios, and elsewhere,” Nandy said.
The two singers meet away from cameras
Nandy explained that her interactions with Zuchu are not limited to occasions where they are seen together publicly.
According to the singer, the two often cross paths at recording studios and music industry events, where they talk and catch up.
“Like when I’m recording, or she’s recording, I see her at Swahbiz, at Lizer’s… We chat and talk about a lot of things,” she added.
Her comments suggest that their relationship is more relaxed away from the attention that comes with being public figures. Both singers have also built successful careers in Bongo Flava, with their music attracting audiences in Tanzania and beyond.
‘The pie is big enough’
Nandy further said that being successful in the same industry does not mean that the two have to compete with each other personally.
She noted that each artist is focused on her own musical journey and has the opportunity to achieve her goals.
“Because she’s a successful artist, and I’m a successful artist… the pie is big enough. Basically, we have no reason to hate each other because everyone is getting what they’re striving for in their music,” she said.
The comments come at a time when Nandy and Zuchu have increasingly been seen in the same social circles, particularly through their husbands’ friendship.
Nandy is married to singer Billnass, while Zuchu is in a relationship with Diamond Platnumz. Their partners’ friendship has also brought the two families into closer contact.
Zuchu and Diamond reveal daughter’s name
Nandy’s comments came on the same day Zuchu and Diamond celebrated their daughter’s 40th day.
During the ceremony, Zuchu’s mother, Khadija Kopa, unveiled the baby’s birth certificate, revealing that the newborn had been officially registered as Sandrah Nasibu.
Khadija explained that she received an envelope containing the birth certificate before revealing the name to those attending the celebration. She also disclosed that the baby has another name, Sanura, which was chosen in honour of her paternal grandmother.
The ceremony therefore served as both a family celebration and the first public unveiling of the name officially recorded for Diamond and Zuchu’s daughter.
For Nandy, however, the occasion also provided an opportunity to address the perception surrounding her relationship with Zuchu, making it clear that their shared position in the music industry is not a reason for hostility.
