Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives have seized bhang worth Ksh3,382,500 in an operation conducted over the weekend.
DCI in a statement issued on Monday, August 26, 2024, said it had made significant strides after seizing large quantities of narcotics and apprehending suspects.

The anti-crime agency says the seizures and arrests happened through well-coordinated efforts by its officers across the country.
“In its relentless pursuit to counter trafficking in narcotics, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has made significant strides over the weekend, seizing large quantities of narcotics and apprehending suspects through well-coordinated efforts by officers across the country,” the statement by DCI reads in part.
Bhang seized
The operations were conducted in Migori County, Busia County and in Naivasha, Nakuru County.
In Migori, DCI officers intercepted a motorcycle rider at a checkpoint, carrying two bags of marijuana weighing 73.6 kilograms, valued at approximately Ksh2,208,000, along Migori-Sirare Highway.
However, the trafficker managed to escape, abandoning the narcotics and the motorcycle at the scene.
In Busia, a multi-agency roadblock led to the interception of a motor vehicle Isuzu Pick-Up along Nambale-Busia Road, where one suspect George Willis Obua aged 20 years, was arrested in possession of 350 rolls of bhang weighing 22 kilograms, with an estimated street value of Ksh660,000.
The detectives acting on a tip-off also arrested a suspect namely Bertha Anyango Wandera, 29, at the Busia main bus stage as she was boarding a public service vehicle bound for Nairobi.
A swift search of her brown bag revealed one bale of bhang wrapped in white cello tape, weighing 17.15 kilograms, with an estimated street value of Ksh514,500.
In Naivasha, Nakuru County, officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) and the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) intercepted a motor vehicle at a roadblock on the Mai Mahiu-Nairobi Road.
The driver of the said vehicle attempted to flee, prompting the police to give a dramatic chase that ended when the vehicle got stuck in a ditch.
The driver who was identified as John Otero Mochoge, was arrested, and a search of the vehicle uncovered 19 packages of cannabis.
The arrested suspects will be processed and arraigned in court today, Monday, August 26, 2024, with the seized narcotics and vehicles being held by the police as exhibits.
