Police officers in Vihiga County have apprehended a female found in possession of at least fifteen bundles of bhang following a targeted operation by law enforcers from Mbale Police Station.

In a report by the National Police Service (NPS) on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, the operation was conducted in the Mbihi area, focused on cracking down on drug trafficking networks.

“One arrested by Police officers from Mbale Police Station conducted an operation yesterday, August 18, 2025, in the Mbihi area, targeting narcotics traffickers,” NPS noted.

Murkomen remarks on drugs crackdown

The Vihiga incident comes at the height of the government’s nationwide crackdown targeting second-generation alcohol businesses, in a move aimed at eliminating illicit brews and drug abuse.

Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen announced the initiative during a press briefing in Kiambu on Monday, August 18, 2025, after a high-level security meeting.

The campaign, dubbed a 100-day Rapid Results Initiative (RRI), will focus on licensed manufacturers, retailers, and consumers suspected of engaging in the illegal trade of adulterated alcohol and narcotics.

“This is a national security threat,” Murkomen declared.

“We are putting on notice all rogue businesspersons and individuals involved in the manufacture, sale, and consumption of illicit alcohol. The time for action is now.”

The CS issued a stern warning to politicians, police officers, and public administrators allegedly shielding the illegal trade.
