Media personality Shiksha Arora has shared practical advice for Kenyans hoping to work and settle in Germany, encouraging them to prepare well before making the move.
In a statement posted on her Instagram page on Monday, July 21, 2026, Shiksha reflected on what she learnt during her recent visit to Germany, saying the experience changed how she views working and living abroad.
Rather than focusing only on finding employment, she urged those considering relocating to think about the bigger picture of adapting to a new country and culture.
Learning the language makes a difference
According to Shiksha, one of the biggest lessons she took away is the importance of learning German before relocating.
She explained that while some jobs are available in English, speaking the local language makes everyday life much easier and creates more opportunities.
“Learning German is an investment. While some jobs are available in English, speaking German opens more doors professionally and really helps you build a social life, access services, and truly feel at home,” she wrote.
She encouraged anyone planning to relocate to begin learning the language early instead of waiting until after arriving.
Qualifications alone are not enough
Shiksha also noted that having the right academic or professional qualifications is only part of the journey.
She explained that integrating into the local community is equally important, adding that adapting to a different culture can help people settle in more comfortably.
“Integration matters just as much as your qualifications. Germany is looking for skilled professionals who are willing to become part of the community, understand the culture, and contribute beyond the workplace,” she stated.
She further advised professionals to confirm whether their academic certificates or licences need to be recognised before they can work in their chosen field.
Preparation increases the chances of success
Another lesson she shared was the importance of researching the job market before relocating.
According to Shiksha, understanding where specific skills are in demand allows people to prepare better and improve their chances of securing employment.
She also reminded those planning to move abroad that patience is necessary because the relocation process often involves paperwork, planning and adjusting to a completely different way of life.
“Be patient with the process. Moving abroad involves paperwork, preparation, and adapting to a completely different system. The more informed you are before you leave, the smoother the transition will be,” she explained.
Building a life beyond employment
As she concluded her reflections, Shiksha said relocating should not only be viewed as a career move but also as the beginning of a new chapter in life.
“For me, the biggest lesson was this: moving to Germany isn’t just about getting a job, it’s about building a life. The people who thrive are often the ones who prepare early, learn the language, stay open-minded, and embrace the experience,” she wrote.
Her message serves as a reminder that while working abroad can offer new opportunities, proper preparation, realistic expectations and a willingness to adapt are just as important as securing the job itself.
