Tuesday weather: Rain, thunderstorms and strong winds expected in several parts of Kenya

Kenya is set to experience mixed weather conditions on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, with rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds expected in several parts of the country, according to the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD).
The weather forecast issued by KMD indicates that some counties will receive showers and thunderstorms, while others will experience cool and cloudy conditions.
Strong southerly to southeasterly winds are also expected in parts of northern and coastal Kenya.
Western Kenya and Highlands
The Kenya Meteorological Department forecasts rainfall in several counties, including Uasin Gishu, Kisumu, Kisii, Migori, Homa Bay, Nakuru, Narok, Kajiado, Kericho, Kakamega, Trans Nzoia, Busia, Bungoma, Vihiga, Bomet and Nyamira.
Some areas are expected to experience showers and thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon and evening hours.
Counties such as Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Bungoma and Vihiga are among those expected to record thunderstorms over a few places.
Nairobi and Central Kenya
In Nairobi and parts of Central Kenya, residents can expect partly cloudy and cool conditions. The forecast shows that Nairobi will record temperatures of about 25°C during the day and lows of around 13°C at night.
Other counties including Kiambu, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Nyeri and Nyandarua are also expected to experience cloudy conditions, with chances of showers in a few areas.
Coast and Northern regions
The weather department has warned of strong winds exceeding 25 knots (about 12.5 metres per second) in parts of Marsabit, Isiolo, Mandera, Garissa, Wajir, Tana River, Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kitui.
Coastal areas such as Mombasa, Kilifi and Lamu are expected to remain partly cloudy with sunny intervals, although strong winds could affect some locations.
Northern Kenya will continue experiencing warmer conditions, with Turkana expected to record temperatures of up to 36°C, while Mandera may reach 36°C during the day. Garissa and Wajir will also remain warm, with daytime temperatures above 30°C.
Meanwhile, cooler conditions are expected in high-altitude areas, with Nyandarua, Nyeri and Kericho recording lower minimum temperatures.
