Vinny Flava reveals how street hawking paved way for his YouTube success

Rising content creator Vinny Flava has opened up about his humble beginnings, revealing that he used to sell items on the streets before finding fame on YouTube.

Speaking in a video shared on his YouTube channel on Saturday, August 16, 2025, Vinny, who has been trending over his break-up with Gee Ng’ang’a, said his first ventures included selling bras on the street, a business that was surprisingly profitable.

He added that he would carefully gauge the sizes for his customers and was able to make significant earnings.

“This is how my life has been like. Before I was selling bras, I was selling smokies and eggs on Mombasa Road,” Vinny said.

He recalled working on Beijing Road for a year, selling smokies, and enduring some of the toughest challenges of his early life.

“I also sold smokies and eggs on the streets of Mombasa Road. I spent a year selling smokies along Beijing Road. I went through a lot of hardship,” he added.

The YouTuber recalled that he also worked as a casual labourer in construction, which he described as his lowest and hardest moments.

He revealed that he worked in Kasarani for a period before turning to street hawking and recalled that he even feared he would never succeed in life because of how gruelling the job was.

“I even tried working as a casual labourer in construction, and that was the hardest work I have ever done. I tried in Kasarani. I was doing manual labour, and that was the lowest point in my life,” he said.

He said one particularly painful experience involved a nurse who passed by the construction site and remarked that no one could marry a person like him, working in such conditions.

“I remember one of the nurses passing by the construction site told us that no one could marry someone like me, working in such conditions and soiled from labour. That really pained me,” he added.

Vinny Flava said he understands the struggles of people in the construction industry and acknowledged their resilience.

He insisted that no one should be quick to dismiss the work they do, noting that many people in such roles are highly capable and sometimes even hold degrees.

“I send a warm message to all people who do mjengo. It is not easy, and these people are not foolish; they are wise, but they have not gotten chances. Some even have degrees,” he said.

Reflecting on his journey, Vinny said the hardships he faced shaped his determination and work ethic, eventually leading him to success on YouTube.

He said his story is a testament to perseverance and the value of staying committed despite early struggles.
