Jamaican reggae singer Jepther Washington McClymont, widely known as Luciano, has urged all artistes, both veteran and upcoming, to work under a management.

Speaking during a press briefing in Nairobi on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, Luciano emphasised the importance of musicians having managers, especially those who genuinely have their best interests at heart.

The reggae star further revealed that he was advised that a good manager is more than a formal representative, but they are a trusted partner who helps navigate the challenges of the music industry.

“I would advise every artiste to find a manager,” he advised.

“I remember the great Icon Bob Andy said to me, “Messenger, having a manager does not mean you have a guy who wears a suit and a tie” you need someone who has your best interest at heart.”

Luciano’s advice comes from his own experience working with mentors and managers who have supported his career over the years.

Politics and music

The veteran singer also warned musicians against mixing their careers with politics.

“I do not know why some artistes are mixing themselves with politics. Politics always comes with a lot of tricks. That is why I do not try to mix myself with politics, you will never see me in any of those,” Luciano said.

Luciano further noted that entering politics can divide an artiste’s fan base.

“When you get caught in politics, you basically split your fans because some of your fans may go against you,” he added.

In addition, the legendary singer added that if he were to get involved in politics, it would have to be a genuine movement that serves the people freely.

“If you get me involved in politics, you have to start one movement, free to people,” Luciano said.
