Paris Has Fallen Season 2 review: Zara and Vincent face a deadly virus threat

Paris Has Fallen Season 2, also known as Apollo Has Fallen, is an action and drama series that continues the story of Zara Taylor and Vincent Taleb after the events of the first season. The new season moves the action beyond Paris as the two are caught up in a dangerous plot involving a deadly biological weapon.
The season begins with Zara, an MI6 agent, and Vincent, a former French officer, monitoring Yuri Mishkin, the leader of the Voltov terrorist group. Their mission takes a sudden turn when the group kidnaps Rachel Moss, a microbiologist, and forces her to help create a virus that could be used as a weapon.
A new threat
The first season focused largely on a terrorist attack in Paris and a revenge plot led by Jacob Pearce. The second season changes direction by introducing a threat that could spread across several countries.
Rachel becomes an important part of the story because of her scientific knowledge. She is not working with the terrorists by choice. Instead, she is being forced to create the biological weapon while Zara and Vincent try to stop the plan.
This gives the new season a different type of danger. Instead of simply trying to capture one enemy, the characters are racing to prevent a weapon from being released.
Zara and Vincent return
Zara and Vincent remain at the centre of the story.
Their partnership is tested as they find themselves dealing with a situation that quickly becomes difficult to control. Zara is forced to rely on her training and instincts, while Vincent once again finds himself in situations where physical survival becomes part of the mission.
The relationship between the two characters also remains important. They do not always have the same approach, but their combined experience gives them a better chance of dealing with the threats around them.
Vincent is taken hostage
The danger becomes more personal when Vincent and Rachel are caught by Yuri and his group.
While being held, Vincent suffers serious injuries. Rachel is then forced to treat him, creating an unusual situation where the two have to depend on each other to survive.
Vincent promises to help Rachel escape if she saves his life. Their situation adds another layer to the story because Rachel is no longer simply a scientist caught in someone else’s plan. She becomes directly involved in the fight to escape the terrorists.
Zara faces a problem inside MI6
While Vincent is trapped, Zara returns to London and begins to suspect that there is a mole inside MI6. This changes the way she approaches the mission. She can no longer assume that everyone working around her can be trusted.
Zara decides to cut off most official communication and keeps contact with only Karen, someone she believes she can trust. This part of the story brings the threat closer to home and makes Zara’s investigation more difficult.
A wider story than the first season
One noticeable change in the second season is its scale. The story moves between locations including Libya, London and Madrid, making the mission feel larger than the events of the first season.
The show also keeps the fast pace expected from an action thriller, with kidnappings, secret operations, and characters trying to stay ahead of people who are always one step away from causing more damage.
