Eddie Butita sends message to critics saying Salasya’s behaviour proves incompetence

Comedian and creative entrepreneur Eddie Butita has come to the defence of Mumias East MP Peter Salasya, dismissing claims that the legislator’s light-hearted behaviour online is a reflection of poor leadership.
Speaking to YouTubers shortly after the MP’s book launch on Saturday, August 2, 2025, Butita said that just because Salasya often makes jokes and displays a playful character on social media does not mean he lacks substance or the ability to deliver as an elected leader.
He argued that humour is not a flaw, but rather a strength that can coexist with effective leadership.
“Yes, Salasya is a joker online, but being a joker is not a bad thing. I myself am a joker. Jokes are what brought me to where I am today, I run a business based on jokes. So I cannot classify him as a joke,” he said.

The comedian added that Salasya’s ability to make people laugh should not be mistaken for incompetence, emphasising that the MP’s track record speaks for itself.
He pointed out that, despite his public antics, Salasya has implemented impactful development projects in his constituency.
“The fact that he is an honourable member of parliament and does things that make people laugh does not mean he is not a resourceful person. If you look at his constituency and what he has done, especially in areas like tertiary education, his development record is clear. When I looked at his record of achievements, I saw that it was solid. He makes noise online, but he delivers,” Butita said.
He went on to say that the idea that serious talk and a stern face equal strong leadership is flawed and misleading.
In his view, a leader’s results matter more than how they present themselves.
“Just because someone talks seriously does not mean anything. Life is not meant to be too heavy. If Salasya frowns and acts serious but is not resourceful as a leader, how does that help? Let us move away from this idea that being called ‘honourable,’ wearing suits, and having flags on your car automatically means you are delivering. That is zero, zero,” he said.
Political career
In the same interview, the SPM Buzz CEO poured cold water on speculation that he is warming up for a political career, insisting that his involvement with politicians has nothing to do with electoral ambitions.
He made it clear that he has no plans to join politics, saying those assuming he is grooming himself for a parliamentary or gubernatorial run have completely misunderstood his intentions.
“Working with politicians does not mean anything. Politics is not something I plan to get into. I have no intention of running for any seat, so do not expect to see me on a campaign poster. If by bad luck you find me on one, just vote for me and I will leave it there. I really have no plan to venture into politics at all,” he said, while addressing claims that his presence around leaders points to political ambitions.

Butita firmly stated that politics is not part of his plan.
“Let me assure you, I do not think you will ever see me in politics, trying to compete with women leaders or anything like that. If I want to help people, there are ways I can support them, he said, warning those anticipating seeing his face on a political campaign poster not to hold their breath.
The celebrated comedian noted that his engagements with politicians revolve solely around matters of governance, not campaigning or aligning himself with any political agenda.
“When you see me with a politician, it is about the governance side of it, not the politics. Governance is the role they play in the creative industry, which I belong to, and to the youth also. That is where my business with politicians ends,” he clarified.
