Salasya calls for servant leadership

Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has delivered a powerful message on the true meaning of leadership, emphasising that in God’s eyes, leadership is not about power or position, but about serving others with humility, wisdom, and integrity.
In a heartfelt reflection shared with his followers on his social media platforms on Saturday, July 26, 2025, Salasya said he felt a deep burden to speak out on the spiritual responsibility that comes with leadership.
“I just felt so heavy in my heart, so I needed to tell you. Leadership in God’s eyes is not about power or position; it’s about being a servant to your people and about wisdom and integrity,” he stated.
He went on to stress that God is more concerned with the development of character than with how fast someone rises in influence or status.
According to Salasya, pride and self-reliance are obstacles that God seeks to burn away through the process of submission and spiritual growth.
“God is interested in your character; he is more interested in who you are than how quickly you rise. He is interested in burning away the pride and self-reliance…and this is where full submission comes in: “Submit your ways unto the Lord, and He will make straight your paths.”
“This is where, even with the big dreams he has given you, you submit them to him and you let him teach you and mould you and equip you with the right skill and maturity and wisdom. In this life, if you do not have wisdom and grace, you cannot survive,” he added.

Salasya’s presidential bid
His remarks come months after he declared his 2027 presidential bid, joining the ever-growing list of aspirants who have already announced their bids for the top seat.
In a statement released on April 28, 2025, the youthful lawmaker stated that the decision had been reached following wide consultations and consideration from the public.
“Fellow Kenyans, after deep reflection, wide consultations, and careful consideration of the state of our nation, I, Peter Kalerwa Salasya, the Member of Parliament for Mumias East Constituency, hereby declare my intention to vie for the Presidency of the Republic of Kenya in the 2027 General Election,” he declared.
According to the MP, he had been motivated to vie for the seat due to a “profound desire to offer bold, transformative leadership that will reposition our great nation for industrial growth, economic empowerment, and social justice.”
