Former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s office has sent a heartfelt message just hours after the burial of the late political icon and former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga in Bondo, Siaya County.

Through a post on the official X handle of the Office of the 4th President on Sunday, October 19, 2025, Uhuru said that Raila’s passing had left a deep void in Kenya’s political and moral fabric.

“Fare thee well, my brother and friend. We shall miss you, Jakom,” the message from the Office of the 4th President of Kenya read.

Uhuru’s emotional farewell

During Raila’s funeral on Sunday, October 19, 2025, the former head of state spoke softly and emotionally about his long friendship with the late ODM Party Leader.

“Jakom, we shall miss you as a leader of this nation. We shall miss your insights, thoughtfulness, wisdom, and laughter,” Uhuru said.

He described Raila as a true statesman whose leadership and courage helped shape Kenya’s democracy.

Uhuru said his own political journey would have been incomplete without Raila’s influence, recalling the historic 2018 handshake that united their political camps and restored national calm after a period of unrest.

“I do not have much to say today, as I already had the opportunity to eulogise my friend and brother at Nyayo National Stadium.

“I send my condolences to Mama Ida Odinga, the entire family, the Bondo community, and the ODM Party,” he said.

Uhuru’s message reflected a tone of respect and loss, capturing the deep personal and political bond he shared with Raila over the years.

President William Ruto also penned a moving message on Facebook, reflecting on Raila’s final journey home.

“Finally, our departed leader, the Right Honourable Raila Amolo Odinga, returned home to Nyamira village in Bondo, the place of his childhood, the cradle of his political convictions, and the sanctuary of his enduring spirit,” Ruto wrote on Facebook.

He said Raila’s life symbolised courage and unity, adding that his return to Bondo was “the embrace of a grateful Republic bidding farewell to one of its greatest sons.”

As Kenya continues to mourn, the messages from Uhuru and Ruto have united the nation in grief, honouring a leader whose legacy will remain etched in the country’s history.
