Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua ditched plans to attend the Harambee Stars quarter-final clash against Madagascar at Kasarani Stadium, choosing instead to join friends and fellow opposition leaders for a lively watch party.
Speaking to fans through a social media post, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka shared photos of the gathering, writing on X:
“Kenya Matchday Watch Party with @rigathi and friends! We are here to watch and celebrate @Harambee__Stars. To all fans across the country, from Kasarani to every watch party and living room, your voices make the difference. Let’s stand tall together! 🇰🇪 Tushabikie #HarambeeStars #TwelfthMan #CHAN2024”

The watch party, held in Nairobi, brought together several opposition party leaders, including Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader, Cleophas Malala, and other prominent political figures.
Supporters cheered on Kenya’s national team as they battled Madagascar in the quarter-finals of the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024).
Gachagua had initially been expected to attend the Kasarani clash after returning from the United States on Thursday, August 21, 2025, but opted to support the team remotely.

The gathering highlighted the growing trend of fans and politicians following major matches via watch parties, bridging the gap between stadium attendance and national fandom.
Attendees at the event were earlier seen interacting with Gachagua, notably joking about the outcome of the match, emphasising the spirit of unity behind the Harambee Stars.

Musyoka’s post further encouraged Kenyans across the country to rally behind the team, whether in fan zones, homes, or community watch events.
