Naivasha Member of Parliament Jayne Njeri Wanjiku Kihara has lamented over her security withdrawal.

Addressing a section of the press on Friday, May 23, 2025, Kihara indicated that she was operating without her bodyguard and security assigned to her by the state.

Owing to the recent shooting of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, Kihara maintained that she urgently needed her security reinstated.

“MPs are entitled to a bodyguard, and you know what happened recently when our colleague was shot dead. I don’t know how we are supposed to operate, whether we are supposed to have goons with pangas and rungus,” the Naivasha MP told the press.

Going against campaign pledge

The MP, who is a close ally of the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, further reprimanded President William Ruto, accusing him of reneging on his campaign promises.

She has since made it clear that her association with Gachagua was not a crime and thus the state should not withdraw her security for that reason.

“And I am calling on the president because he was all over the campaign saying that he would never use security forces to advance his politics. Also, being a Gachagua’s friend is not a crime. I have said many times, I am not a baby, I am not a fool, I am somebody who can make my own decisions like I made when I was supporting William Samoei Ruto, I was all this country campaigning for him when we exited Jubilee.

“If you are going to use security agencies to frustrate friends of Gachagua is all in vain. We don’t think you would go very far,” Kihara insisted.

Feeling vulnerable

Kihara questioned the motive of her security withdrawal while saying that if anything happens to her, Ruto should personally be held responsible.

“But I need security because it is a right, and should anything happen to me, our president, you are to blame. You said you will never, use security for political reasons. I feel so vulnerable now, I feel so naked, and you know our work is traveling including moving around at night,” she retorted.

“So, Mr President, give me back my security or bodyguard. I am a very small person to be fought … please let me live because if you remove my bodyguard, it means you want to harm me.”
