Most tracked flight: 7K follow KQ202 to India as Raila’s body is repatriated

Kenya Airways flight KQ202, tasked with taking the Kenyan delegation to Mumbai, India, to arrange the repatriation of the remains of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, became the most tracked flight in the world.

According to the Flightradar24 data that was shared by KQ via social media moments after the plane landed at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) in Mumbai, the flight was followed by over 7,080 people online.

The national carrier confirmed in a brief statement in the wee hours of Thursday, October 16, 2025, that the aircraft had landed in Mumbai, where the body of Kenya’s former Prime Minister and iconic statesman was prepared for return to Nairobi.

“The most tracked flight. KQ 202 to Mumbai, ready to bring home Baba, Raila Odinga,” a brief caption accompanying an image with Flightradar24 data read.

Over 7,000 users simultaneously monitored KQ202’s trajectory, a rare display of global attention usually reserved for heads of state or historic events.

Kenyan delegation to India

A delegation of more than 30 Kenyan leaders led by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi was on the flight to India to facilitate the repatriation of the late former Prime Minister’s body back to the country.

The delegation, comprising senior government officials, politicians, and members of the Odinga family, departed for India on Wednesday evening.

The delegation included Cabinet Secretaries Kipchumba Murkomen (Interior), Hassan Joho (Mining), Salim Mvurya (Mining), William Kabogo (ICT), Governors Johnson Sakaja (Nairobi), Ochillo Ayacko (Migori), Gideon Mung’aro (Kilifi), and Migori Senator Eddy Oketch, among others.

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, Health Principal Secretary Dr Ouma Oluga are also part of the government delegation.

Arrival of Raila’s body

According to the schedule, the Kenyan delegation was expected to arrive in Mumbai at 1:00 am on Thursday, before departing at 2:00 am with the remains of the former Prime Minister.

The body will arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at 8:30 am, where it will be received with full state honours.

From JKIA, the body will be taken to Lee Funeral Home, before a solemn procession to State House at midday, and later to Parliament Buildings at 2:00 p.m., where Kenyans will be allowed to pay their final respects.

On Friday, October 17, 2025, a national prayer service will be held at Nyayo Stadium, after which the procession will head to Kisumu and Bondo. Saturday, October 26, 2025, will see a public viewing at Moi Stadium in Kisumu before the journey continues to his rural home in Bondo for Sunday’s burial.

President William Ruto earlier announced that a national committee to oversee the former Prime Minister’s funeral arrangements would be co-chaired by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga, Raila’s elder brother.
