What is extra legroom seat, and who can book one on Kenya Airways

Kenya Airways offers extra legroom seats in Economy Class for passengers who want more space to stretch their legs during a flight.
These seats are placed in exit rows, giving passengers more room compared with regular Economy Class seats.
The seats are available only on flights operated by Kenya Airways. Passengers travelling on flights operated by partner airlines cannot book the Extra Legroom option through Kenya Airways.
Extra legroom seats are not automatically available on every flight. They depend on seat availability and are also subject to Kenya Airways’ terms and conditions. Passengers must meet specific safety requirements before they can select one of these seats.
Who is eligible for an extra legroom seat?
Because the seats are located near emergency exits, passengers who book them must be able to assist in an emergency if required. Kenya Airways therefore has several conditions that passengers must meet before booking.
A passenger must be physically able to reach, locate and operate the emergency exit window or door. They must also be capable of moving through the exit quickly if an emergency evacuation is needed.
The passenger must be able to understand and acknowledge safety instructions given in English. This is important because the person sitting in an exit row may need to follow instructions during an emergency.
Passengers must also be at least 18 years old. They should not have any condition that could prevent them from carrying out the duties required of someone seated at an emergency exit.
People travelling with children or infants cannot book these seats. The same applies to passengers travelling with a caregiver, guide dog or an assistance animal.
Pregnant passengers are also not eligible to book an extra legroom seat. Kenya Airways requires passengers to meet all the stated requirements before selecting an exit row seat.
How to book the seat
Passengers who meet the safety requirements can book an Extra Legroom Seat when available on a Kenya Airways-operated flight. The airline advises eligible passengers to make their booking early because the seats are limited.
The seats are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, meaning they may no longer be available if a passenger waits until later to make a selection.
Passengers should also check all the eligibility requirements before paying for an extra legroom seat. Meeting the requirements does not guarantee that a seat will be available on a particular flight, as availability can vary.
The Extra Legroom option therefore provides more space in Economy Class, but passengers must meet the safety conditions because the seats are located in emergency exit rows.
