Kindiki: We are delivering campaign pledges to grassroots traders

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has reiterated the government’s commitment to uplifting grassroots traders, assuring them that the promises made during the 2022 election campaigns are now being implemented through structured economic interventions.
Speaking on Thursday, May 9, 2025, during the Boda Boda and Mama Mboga Empowerment Forum held in Mawingu, Kipipiri Constituency, Nyandarua County, Kindiki said the government is focused on empowering small-scale entrepreneurs through policy, legislative and financial support.
“We will continue to empower mama mboga, boda boda and small-scale traders and other critical groups who are at the grassroots because it is critical to boost their efforts in order to uplift their livelihoods,” the DP said.
The country’s second-in-command affirmed that the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) is centered on those historically left behind in national development, including market vendors, informal traders, and the youth. He noted that financial empowerment of these groups would lead to stronger local economies and a more inclusive national economy.
He defended the empowerment initiatives against criticism, saying the government would not be distracted by political noise or misinformation. Instead, he emphasized that the administration is focused on fulfilling its development promises.
“For the small-scale traders, empowerment is important as it will go a long way in bolstering their businesses and improving returns,” he added.

Highlighting development in Kipipiri, Prof Kindiki announced the ongoing construction of modern markets in Mawingu and Wanjohi towns. The new facilities, he said, will offer safe, clean, and organized spaces for local traders to conduct business and support formalization of their operations.
He also revealed that the government has revived stalled infrastructure projects in the area, including the Geta–Ndunyu Njeru road, which is now set for completion before the 2027 General Election.
In addition, the DP committed to resolving historical land issues in the county, particularly the lack of title deeds in colonial villages. He acknowledged the frustrations of residents who have lived for decades without legal land ownership and promised government intervention.
“We will find a solution to the pending title deeds issue for colonial villages in Nyandarua County because it is an issue we must solve as requested by residents,” Kindiki stated.
Focus on delivery
Kindiki noted that with the economy now stabilised—thanks to policy reforms implemented over the last two years—the government is shifting focus to delivery of services and completion of key projects.
“We have stabilised the economy, and now it’s time to work. We are working every day to uplift the lives of the people,” he said.
His remarks underscore the administration’s renewed emphasis on grassroots empowerment and restoring public trust through visible development.
