Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has expressed confidence that 2025 will mark a transformative year for Kenyan households, with rising disposable incomes and tangible benefits from the Kenya Kwanza administration’s policies.
In a New Year’s message shared on X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday, January 2, 2025, Kindiki detailed the government’s economic achievements and laid out plans for accelerating recovery and growth this year.
“Deliberate interventions over the last two years have yielded steady macroeconomic recovery,” Kindiki wrote, highlighting key milestones.
He pointed to the strengthening of the Kenyan shilling against major currencies, declining inflation and interest rates, and a progressive reduction in fuel and essential commodity prices as signs of economic stabilization.
“The Kenyan shilling has strengthened against major currencies, inflation and interest rates have significantly declined, while the prices of fuel and essential household commodities are progressively reducing,” he said.
Kindiki outlined the government’s strategy for the year, focusing on microeconomic recovery, job creation, and enhancing household incomes.
According to the DP, reforms targeting agriculture, livestock, fisheries, and the blue economy, coupled with the completion of projects such as special economic zones, affordable housing, and ICT hubs, are expected to stimulate growth.
“In 2025, the Government is accelerating key interventions for microeconomic recovery, job and wealth creation as well as enhancement of household incomes.
“Sustained reforms targeting key value chains in agriculture, livestock, fisheries and the blue economy; completion of the first cohort of special economic zones, affordable housing projects, modern markets, ICT Hubs and County Aggregation and Industrial Parks will stimulate growth and drive up per capita income,” Kindiki stated.
He also highlighted the Universal Health Coverage Program, Taifa Care, and ongoing education reforms as pivotal initiatives that are expected to leave households with more disposable income by the end of the year.
“By end of the year, Kenya’s ambitious Universal Health Coverage Program- Taifa Care- and the ongoing education reforms will go a long way in minimizing out of pocket expenses on health and education, leaving households with more disposable incomes, Kindiki stated.
Adding that; “This is the year that the hard and difficult task of transforming our country will start yielding returns.”
Echoes of optimism
Kindiki’s sentiments align with those of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who earlier declared 2025 as the year Kenyans would see the benefits of the Kenya Kwanza administration’s foundation.
“As the New Year 2025 begins, I wish Kenyans God’s grace and blessings. This is the year that Kenyans will realise the good and strong foundation that the Kenya Kwanza has put in place for the great trajectory of our beloved nation,” Mudavadi said in a statement on social media on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.
Mudavadi’s message sought to instil hope and rally Kenyans behind the administration’s agenda.
Reflecting on the challenges of previous years, he emphasized that 2025 would mark a turning point for the country, with the fruits of Kenya Kwanza’s policies becoming evident.
“I would like to rally Kenyans of all walks of life to work hard, be peaceful, and keep the Kenyan spirit alive,” Mudavadi added, urging unity and resilience.
