Kenya Power has announced a planned power outage scheduled for Friday, October 24, 2025, that will affect several areas across four counties.

In a statement issued on X on Thursday, October 23, 2025, Kenya Power listed specific regions in Nairobi, Narok, Kisii, and Migori counties that will experience the blackout, with all affected areas expected to be without electricity from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

“The following areas will be on planned power maintenance tomorrow,” wrote Kenya Power.

Nairobi County

In the Nairobi region, parts of Muthaiga will be affected. The outage will cover Karura Avenue, Mini Market, and Muthaiga Road, including several foreign embassies such as those of Israel, Belgium, the USA, Ghana, Italy, Austria, and Tanzania. Kenya Power advised customers in these areas to make necessary arrangements in advance since the maintenance will take most of the day.

Narok County

In the Central Rift region, parts of Narok County, including Dikirr, Mokondo, and Kirindoni, will also be affected. Other specific areas that will experience the blackout include Esoit, Murkan, Kurangurik, Mamboleo, Kapolecho, Simotwet, Kapweria, Tumda, Kiletien, Chemmamit, Kiriwet, Kapsinendet, and surrounding customers. The company said the outage in these areas will run between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.

Kisii and Migori Counties

In the South Nyanza region, several areas in Kisii County will go without power during the same hours. The affected areas include Keumbu and Kiandege. The blackout will impact Keumbu Sub-County Hospital, Keumbu Market, Riondonga Secondary School, Nyaturubo, Boruma Secondary, Kiangende Polytechnic, Gesere, and Nyamanengo.

Migori County will also be affected, with Awendo Town, Sony Sugar, Ranen, and Rinya listed among the areas expected to experience the power interruption from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

In recent weeks, Kenyans have been reacting online to the frequent maintenance-related blackouts, expressing concern about their growing impact on daily life and businesses. Many say the unplanned disruptions have become too common, forcing small traders and service providers to incur losses during working hours.

Others have called on Kenya Power to find better ways to manage repairs and upgrades without affecting productivity. While the company maintains that the outages are necessary to improve supply reliability, some business owners argue that consistency and proper notice are key to minimising inconvenience and sustaining operations across affected regions.
