Nairobi and its neighbouring regions should brace for light to moderate rainfall over the next 24 hours, as per the Kenya Meteorological Department.

In its latest advisory issued on Friday, November 22, 2024, the department also warned of potential heavy rainfall in isolated areas.

The weatherman predicted consistent rainfall across most parts of Nairobi Metropolis from 9 am to Saturday 9 am.

However, some areas may experience heavier downpours accompanied by thunderstorms.

“Nairobi Metropolis Weather Update. 9 am Friday 22nd – 9 am Saturday 23rd November 2024: Light to moderate rainfall is expected across most areas within the metropolis. However, isolated heavy rainfall and storms are likely in some regions,” Kenya Met stated.

Other areas

Looking ahead to the weekend, the department projected that rainfall will persist across various parts of the country, including the Highlands both East and West of the Rift Valley, Nairobi, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, South-Eastern Lowlands, and Coastal regions. Northwestern and Northeastern Kenya are also expected to experience showers.

Kenya Met has cautioned that certain areas may record rainfall exceeding 20mm within 24 hours, which could lead to localized flooding.

“Weekend Rainfall Forecast (Fri 22nd – Sun 24th Nov). Light to moderate rainfall is expected to continue over the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, Nairobi, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, South-eastern Lowlands, Coast, North-western, and North-eastern Kenya. Stay Alert: Some areas may experience heavy rainfall (>20mm in 24 hours),” the weatherman stated.

Residents are advised to stay alert and take precautions, particularly in areas prone to flooding or where heavy rainfall is anticipated.
