The Kenya Meteorological Department has announced that rainfall will continue across the Nairobi Metropolitan area over the next 24 hours.

In a public notice issued on Monday, March 2, 2026, the weatherman said the latest forecast maps show that several parts of Nairobi and its surrounding areas will receive moderate rainfall, with some places likely to experience heavier downpours.

According to the department, the forecast is valid from 9 am on Monday, March 2, to 9 am on Tuesday, March 3, 2026. Residents should expect showers during the day and at night, as the rainy conditions persist across the city.

The weatherman indicated that some areas, especially parts of Westlands and nearby neighbourhoods, could receive heavier rainfall compared to other sections of the metropolis. These heavier pockets of rain may occur in isolated locations.

The department has also cautioned that continued rainfall could lead to waterlogging in low-lying and poorly drained areas. Motorists and pedestrians have been advised to be careful, particularly in areas that are prone to flooding during heavy rains.

“Continued Rainfall Expected over Nairobi Metropolis. Rainfall is set to continue across the Nairobi Metropolitan area, as shown in the latest 24-hour forecast maps. Several areas are likely to experience moderate rainfall, with localised pockets of heavier rainfall, especially over parts of Westlands and surrounding areas,” the notice read in part.

Adding;

“Valid Period: 9 AM 02 March – 9 AM 03 March 2026 What to expect: •Ongoing showers during the day and night •Isolated heavy rainfall events in some locations •Possible waterlogging in low-lying and poorly drained areas.”

The latest advisory comes as Nairobi continues to experience wet weather, with many roads already affected by puddles and slow traffic due to ongoing showers.

The ongoing showers are part of the March–April–May long rains season. The weatherman confirmed that the onset of the long rains began in mid to late February in several parts of the country after rainfall met the required onset criteria.

“(KMD) has released an update on the onset of the March–April–May (MAM) 2026 Long Rains across Kenya. Rainfall received since mid-February has met the onset criteria in several regions, including western, central and highland areas,” Kenya Met Department said in a past statement.

Regions already experiencing the long rains include parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, such as Bungoma and Nakuru, as well as areas around the Lake Victoria Basin, like Kisumu and Kakamega. In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, counties such as Nyeri, Murang’a, Kiambu and Nyandarua have also recorded consistent rainfall since mid-February.
