A Kenya Defence Force (KDF) soldier who was on Tuesday evening arrested by police officers for allegedly defiling a minor has been released by a Nyeri Court on Sh200,000 cash bail.
Martin Wanjii Kabura was released by Nyeri Senior Principal Magistrate Mathias Okuche who set the hearing date for the case on January 19, 2020.
The soldier, who is stationed at Embakasi Barracks, was arrested after a car he was driving was involved in an accident that took occurred on Nyeri- Mweiga highway at around 6 pm.
The Kenya Army soldier had volunteered to drop off the girl, a distant relative, to school on reopening day.
A police report seen by Mediamax Digital revealed that the soldier booked a hotel room and defiled the minor before proceeding with the journey to school.
“The officer was ferrying one XX, a minor aged 16, and a Form One student aboard a personal car when the driver made a stop-over at Kiriaini town booked a room and defiled the minor,” the police report said.
The minor revealed to the police that the suspect had promised that he would drop her off in school but the accident occurred way past their intended destination.
She was taken to Nyeri County Referral Hospital and the soldier detained at Nyeri Police Station.
