Head of Creative Economy and Special Projects in the Executive Office of the President, Dennis Itumbi, has revealed that he once served as an evangelist before transitioning into public life.

Speaking in an interview with Alex Mwakideu on Friday, September 19, 2025, about his past, Itumbi said his journey began in the church where he regularly preached, even saying there were posters to promote his services at the time.

From the altar to public life

According to Itumbi, preaching was his first calling, and he took it seriously before leaving the pulpit for other pursuits. He explained that while he no longer preaches in church, he continues to view his work and public engagements as a form of preaching, only in a different style.

“I was evangelist Dennis Itumbi. Posters are still there. In scripture, I was strong. I used to preach fully. katika ile mambo ya scripture niko sawa. Nilikua nahubiri kabisa.I stopped preaching at the altar, but I have not stopped preaching altogether. I’ve just changed the form of preaching,” he said.

Itumbi noted that his outlook on life is guided by stages, and he envisions returning to evangelism in the future.

“This life has about two more stages before I retire back to inspiring souls. From there, that will be the final chapter,” he added.

Turning negativity into opportunity

Beyond his evangelism background, Itumbi reflected on his career in digital strategy and politics, noting that navigating social media has been one of his biggest challenges. For years, he said, he struggled with how to deal with negativity directed at him online.

He revealed that he has now found a way to turn that criticism into an opportunity.

“For many years, I wondered how to turn the negativity on social media into business, into money. I have finally cracked it. Very soon, you will see results. I have finally learned how to turn negativity into business,” he said.

Itumbi’s remarks offer a rare look into his personal journey, blending his past as an evangelist with his current role in public life.

Known for his influence in political communication, he says that while he shifted from the altar to other platforms, the mission to inspire and influence people has remained at the centre of his work.
