Gachagua reacts after Ruto meets Gideon Moi and KANU troops

Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has accused President William Ruto of deception following his high-profile meeting with Gideon Moi and KANU troops.
Gachagua claims that the president’s narrative on hustlers versus dynasties was false and that he has now aligned himself with the very dynasties he once opposed.

Speaking during Wiper’s NDC on Friday, October 10, 2025, the DCP boss said Ruto had previously courted them with religious rhetoric and promises, portraying himself as a champion of ordinary Kenyans.
“You know, Ruto once approached us with the Bible; he used it to convince us, but he deceived us. He came up with something called hustler versus dynasty. He told us that the enemies of Kenya are the Kenyatta family, the Jaramogi family, and the Moi family,” he shared.
Gachagua noted that during Ruto’s rise, terms like “hustler” and “Mama Mboga” were central to his political brand, but today the president has abandoned those ideals.

According to Gachagua, Ruto has betrayed the very citizens who supported him by siding with elite political families and consolidating power with dynasties, leaving ordinary Kenyans behind.
“Since he took office, you have heard about hustlers and Mama Mboga again and again,” he stated.
He added that Ruto had even diverted resources intended for the common people into his control, undermining the small gains that had been available to ordinary hustlers.

“This man is very deceptive. He is a liar. He deceived all of us, and Kenyans are now dealing with the dynasties he said he would fight. Now I want to tell him to find another strategy to deceive Kenyans. The whole hustler versus dynasty thing is a lie. All of that was false. He has now become part of the dynasties, and all the ordinary Kenyans he left behind are suffering,” Gachagua said.
Gachagua also said that Ruto’s promises to protect the interests of the hustlers were hollow, recalling instances when Ruto ordered harsh measures against protesters while selectively shielding allies.
He said this demonstrates the president’s hypocrisy and abandonment of the grassroots, leaving the hustler movement effectively defunct under his leadership

“He promised to provide for the people from the fund, but instead, he took the little that was there. He said he would protect hustlers; if their children opposed, he ordered shots fired at them, but for others, he said only their legs should be shot. He has now harassed hustlers so much that even he has forgotten what hustler means,” the former DP added.
Gachagua then expressed confidence that the opposition will ultimately triumph in the 2027 elections, emphasising that the president’s abandonment of the principles he once championed would cost him support at the ballot box.
“This Ruto we are seeing, we will defeat him. And I want you to assure me that we will thrash him,” Gachagua added.
