Kalonzo warns IEBC to deliver a fair 2027 election or face the wrath of history
Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has issued a stern warning to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), urging the body to ensure a free and fair 2027 General Election.
Speaking during Wiper’s NDC on Friday, October 10, 2025, he stressed that the coming polls will not be rigged and told the commission that it must choose whether to act on the right side of history and deliver justice or risk being remembered as a rotten institution.
“This coming election will not be stealable, and we must tell the IEBC that either they want to be on the right side of history and deliver that image of a rotten IEBC, or they are going to do justice,” Kalonzo said.
Earlier, he had warned the IEBC Chair against election interference.
Shifting dynamics
Kalonzo further reflected on recent political developments and the shifting dynamics within the country.
He recalled the impeachment motion against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, noting that someone had suggested that the impeachment should target President William Ruto first.
He said the attempt underscored the consequences of political actions but welcomed the outcomes, explaining that the impeachment had inadvertently strengthened the opposition.
“And when there was a motion to impeach Rigathi Gachagua, someone said that if you must impeach, do it to William Ruto first. I think Ruto’s government has since realised the follies of the impeachment actions. Actions have consequences, and those consequences are bringing the new dawn,” he said.

Kalonzo then sarcastically expressed gratitude to President Ruto for the impeachment of Gachagua, noting that it brought opposition leaders together and reinforced their collective resolve to liberate the country.

He said this development also gave the opposition a strategic advantage, allowing leaders who were previously sidelined to emerge as prominent figures in national politics.
“I thank Ruto for impeaching Gachagua because now we are together with him in opposition, and we are going to liberate the country and even Ruto himself,” he added.
He praised Gachagua for rising to national prominence, noting that while he was less known during his tenure as deputy president, he has now become a recognised and influential leader.
“I want to encourage Gachagua to stand stronger than even when he was deputy president. Back then, nobody knew him, and now he is known,” he added.
Kalonzo further highlighted the dismissal of former National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, describing him as a brilliant mind who has now joined the opposition, thereby bolstering their ranks.
“It is also good that Ruto fired Justin Muturi, a brilliant mind who is now on our side. We are now going to lead this revolution.”
