Monday weather: Kenya Met predicts varied conditions across the country

Kenyans should expect a mixed bag of weather on Monday, September 14, 2026, according to the Kenya Meteorological Department.
The department’s daily forecast points to rain in the west and along parts of the coast, while other parts of the country stay dry and sunny.
Rain expected in the west, coast
The weatherman says rainfall is expected in parts of Kericho, Kakamega, Vihiga, Nandi, Kisumu, Baringo, West Pokot, Bomet, Homa Bay, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nakuru, Narok, Bungoma, Busia, Siaya, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Uasin Gishu and Trans Nzoia.
Nyandarua, Murang’a, Meru, Nyeri and Embu are also on the list, alongside the coastal counties of Mombasa, Lamu and Kilifi.
Nairobi will be partly cloudy tonight, with light showers likely over a few places. Cloud clears into sunny intervals by morning, before sunny spells return in the afternoon with a slight chance of showers. Temperatures in the capital will sit between 15°C and 24°C.
At the coast, Mombasa will record a high of 30°C and a low of 22°C, with light showers expected over a few places in the morning ahead of sunny intervals.
Further west, Kakamega and Bungoma should brace for moderate showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon, on top of overnight rain.
Strong winds for the north and northeast
Kenya Met has also flagged rough winds over the country’s drier regions, warning that “strong southerly to southeasterly winds of above 25 knots (12.5m/s)” are expected over Turkana, Marsabit, Isiolo, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, Tana River, Taita Taveta, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu and Kitui.
Motorists and residents in these areas should take extra caution, especially along the coast and the northern corridor.
Elsewhere, it will be hot and dry. Mandera leads with a scorching high of 37°C, matched by Turkana. Marsabit and Nyandarua will be the coolest spots, with lows dropping to 15°C and 9°C respectively.
For those planning their day around daylight, the sun will rise at 6:25 am and sets at 6:31 pm in Nairobi. In Mombasa, sunrise will be at 6:14 am and sunset at 6:19 pm.
