Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has finally tasted freedom after spending four nights in police cells.

Mr Waititu posted his Sh15 million bail on Wednesday but a delay in processing the payment saw the embattled county boss spend the night behind bars.

Mr Waititu, who was remanded at Industrial Area Prison after he was unable to raise the Sh15 million cash bailed slapped on him on Tuesday by the Anti-Corruption Court Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi, was welcomed by a handful supporters.

One of his county ministers, Mr Karungo wa Thang’wa, who has been updating his followers on social media regarding the Waititu bail backed with a hashtag #FreeWaititu, took to his Twitter to announce the release.

“#FreeAtLast BabaYao leaves Industrial Area Prison after his bail goes through. #FreeBabaYao,” said the CEC, who is in charge of Youth and Sports.

When the court slapped him with the cash bail which has an alternative of Sh40 billion bond and orders barring him from accessing his office, he failed to raise it and instead filed an appeal seeing to have it reviewed downwards on grounds that it was too high for him.

The appeal was expected to be heard on Friday.
