A policeman attached to the Police Headquarters in Jogoo House was paid Sh2.4 million after he falsely claimed that both his lower and upper limbs were amputated following a road accident.

Corporal Dominick Lusweti Masengeli made the claims and was paid Sh2,440,320 by Pioneer Assurance Company.

A senior officer in charge of Administration at Jogoo House detected the fraud while checking the payment schedules prepared by the insurance company dated November 13, 2019.

The matter was on Monday handed over to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

Insurance fraud has been a common problem in the country, with the perpetrators increasingly becoming more creative with their claims.

Other forms include staging accidents, pretending that one has lost a valuable item and then filing a claim.

The policeman was arrested on Monday, December 2, 2019.
