A Nairobi administration police officer has been arrested after he allegedly lied to an assurance company that he lost all his arms and legs in a road accident, and, was as a result, compensated Ksh2.44 million by the firm.

Corporal Domnick Lusweti Masengeli allegedly received the said-money on November 13, 2019 after making the alleged false claim.

Florence Kagendo, the officer in charge of administration police officers’ claims at Jogoo House, made the discovery on December 2, when Pioneer Assurance Company handed over a payment schedule to the office. In the schedule, Masengeli was listed among those who had received compensation after their claims were processed.

On the claim form, Masengeli reportedly alleged that all his arms and legs were amputated after he was involved in a grisly car crash. He was consequently paid Ksh2, 440, 320.

Subsequent investigations, however, revealed that Masengeli was of good health, leading to his arrest.

DCI detectives are investigating how Masengeli managed to successfully lodge a compensation claim without suffering any permanent physical injuries.

Police say he will be arraigned on Tuesday, December 3.
