UDA party politician Francis Mureithi has condemned the cold-blood murder of Embakasi East Returning Officer Daniel Musyoka.

The body of the elections official was found at the Amboseli National Park in Kajiado South Sub-County on Monday, August 15, four days after he went missing while on official duty at the East African School of Aviation tallying centre.

Speaking to members of the press on Wednesday, August 17, Mureithi called on investigative agencies to get to the bottom of the murder.

Mureithi, who lost in the Embakasi East MP race, alleged that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) official was killed for refusing to engage in electoral malpractice.

The politician said there are many witnesses ready to testify in the matter but are afraid to do so for fear of their lives. He called on the state to assure them of their security by putting them on the witness protection programme.

“I demand that thorough investigations be carried out so that Mr. Daniel Musyoka’s family can get justice,” Mureithi said while demanding that the matter be moved to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Headquarters.

“I demand that the Witness Protection Program be applied in this case given that there are numerous potential witnesses willing to come forward but are scared.”

Babu Owino mourns IEBC staffer Daniel Musyoka

Yesterday, Embakasi East MP-elect Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino also condemned the killing, further calling for a speedy probe.

“I am saddened by the death of former Embakasi East constituency IEBC Returning Officer Mr. Musyoka. I send my condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the late Mr Musyoka. I urge the relevant authorities to conduct thorough investigations and bring the culprits to book,” Owino said in a post on Facebook.

Owino, who ran on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket, garnered 57,410 votes against 29,104 of Mureithi. The latter claims he was rigged out.
