Westlands School principal reveals how Tr Cillah paid for pupil’s surgery as George Ruto visits them

Westlands School principal has revealed how popular educationist Teacher Cillah personally paid for the surgery of a pupil who had been struggling with a condition that made it difficult for the child to use the toilet normally.

Speaking on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, after President William Ruto’s son George Ruto honoured his earlier vow to support and visit Cillah at the school, the principal took time to publicly praise the educationist for going above and beyond to support one of the learners under her care.

The principal revealed that Cillah had taken personal responsibility for helping the young pupil, who had been brought to the school unable to perform a basic bodily function normally.

“There is a young baby who was brought here who could not be able to do what we do in the toilet, responding to nature. So she took it to herself, and she oversaw it until the baby got an operation at Kenyatta Hospital, with no contribution from me or anyone else,” the principal said.

He went on to reveal that Cillah had personally raised the money required to ensure that the pupil received the necessary medical attention and underwent the operation.

“She raised her own money. That is amazing. Give her some claps,” he added, prompting those gathered at the school to applaud the educationist for her intervention.

The principal also took a moment to appreciate George for his decision to visit the school and support Cillah, describing his presence as meaningful to the institution.

He thanked George for backing Cillah and expressed his appreciation for making time to visit the school.

Message of gratitude

Cillah, on her part, also expressed her gratitude to George for honouring his commitment and making an appearance at the school.

She thanked him for standing by her and said his decision to support her meant a lot to her before welcoming him to address those gathered.

“I would want to thank him for backing me up. It means a lot. So thank you so much for coming and may you be so blessed. Let me not talk so much, but welcome him here. We hear from him,” Cillah said.

Fun afternoon

The revelation came as Westlands Primary School hosted the President’s son for an afternoon meet-and-greet, during which learners were treated to a lively programme featuring dance performances, DJ music and a talent showcase.

The colourful event brought together learners, teachers and guests for an afternoon of entertainment, with the pupils filling the school grounds as they danced, cheered and enthusiastically participated in the activities lined up for them.

The presence of the flashy city nganyas added to the excitement, with Mood and Moneyfest putting on performances and stunts that immediately caught the attention of the learners and turned the school grounds into an energetic entertainment arena.

George also took time away from the entertainment session to interact with the pupils inside their classrooms, moving from one desk to another as he spoke to them and got a glimpse into their everyday learning environment.

The visit later culminated in a spirited dance session, with George and Teacher Cillah invited to the front to join the learners and showcase their moves, a moment that sent the already excited pupils into louder cheers and applause.
