A senior Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer is counting losses after a thug broke into his car and took his private firearm, a Ceska pistol, and a laptop worth Ksh37,000.

Confirming the Wednesday night incident, Naivasha sub-county police commander Samuel Waweru noted that at the time of the incident, the officer had parked his car outside a supermarket.

Waweru suspects that the thug may have been trailing the officer moments before the incident happened.

“We suspect the gangster had been lurking in the vicinity looking for vulnerable motorists or had trailed the officer,” Waweru said.

According to CCTV footage, the thug is seen lurking around the crime scene waiting to launch his mission.

He headed to the officer’s car and attempted to open the doors to no avail. Unperturbed, the thug who was relentless on his mission moved to the backyard of the supermarket to re-strategise.

The footage shows him scanning the area in order to ensure that he was not being tracked.

He is then seen heading to the officer’s car from the back of the supermarket to make his second attempt. Shortly, he removes a key and opens the car’s door and steals a black leather bag containing the valuables belonging to the officer and hurriedly leaves the vicinity.

Waweru noted that investigations have been launched to arrest the suspect.

“We are still analysing the CCTV footage, which will help us identify the suspect,” Waweru added.
