Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards coaches miss out on April’s best shortlist

In a rare occurrence, Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards coaches have not made the cut into the Football Kenya Federation Premier League’s Best Coach of the Month shortlist for April 2026.
In the shortlist unveiled on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, the two gaffers were left out of the monthly nominees following inconsistent results. Sammy Omolo, Nicholas Muyoti, and Francis Xavier of Mara Sugar are among the tacticians who will battle for the coveted prize for April 2026
The trio is joined by Nairobi United’s gaffer, Godfrey Oduor, famously known as Solo.

AFC Leopards suffered two title setbacks during the month: going down 3-0 against Kenya Police on Saturday, April 19, 2026, before seeing their title push dealt a decisive sucker punch in the Sunday, April 26, 2026, Mashemeji Derby loss to archrivals Gor Mahia.
Gor’s record for April
On their part, Gor played out two 0-0 draws against Kariobangi Sharks and Bandari FC before bouncing back with a Mashemeji Derby triumph over AFC Leopards.
That win, coupled with a subsequent victory away to Kakamega Homeboyz, restored their nine-point lead at the top of the table, putting them in a very strong position to secure their 22nd league title.
The Nominees
The shortlist promises to be a close contest between Omolo and Police FC’s Nicholas Muyoti. Sammy Omolo led APS Bomet to a 100 per cent win record as the Kericho-based side consolidated their push to stay afloat and avoid relegation.
Under his tutelage, the FKF PL newbies won all three of their matches during the month, scoring five goals and conceding none.
For the in-form law enforcers, Muyoti managed a winning ratio of 50 per cent, winning two of their four league ties.
A 3-0 defeat of Ingwe was their month’s highlight, coming weeks after the club dispatched rivals Tusker FC. The club remained solid in the campaign and did not concede a single goal, with draws against Mathare United and Shabana FC completing their fine defensive record.
Francis Xavier of Mara Sugar, whose side conceded only a single goal, is also expected to make a strong case. The Awendo-based club played four games in the period and recorded a winning percentage of 75.
