Ex-Gor Mahia ace Muguna praises Philemon Otieno and Wendo as they exit the club
Former Gor Mahia midfield maestro Kenneth Muguna has joined the tributes for departing Gor Mahia legends Philemon Otieno and Ernest Wendo after their emotional farewell.
It was the end of an era for Gor Mahia as veteran duo Otieno and Wendo bid an emotional farewell to the club during K’Ogalo‘s final league fixture on Sunday, May 31, 2026.
Their departures bring the curtain down on two of the most illustrious careers in modern Kenyan football, cementing their legacy among the most decorated players to ever grace the FKF Premier League after a trophy-laden era with the record champions.
Remarkable feat
In a statement on his social media page on Wednesday, May 3, 2026, the former Kenya Premier League winner with both Gor Mahia and Police FC particularly praised his former teammate Ernest Wendo for his remarkable feats during his tenure with the famed Green and White of Gor.

“11 years at the top is such a remarkable achievement; you left a mark and am sure you’ll be successful wherever you go. Respect my friend, and I wish you all the best in your next club. “Congratulations, Wendo,” Muguna said.
Muguna’s flowing tribute comes after former Gor skipper and goalkeeping great Jerim Onyango also spoke effusively of the duo.
Wendo’s influence and discipline
“I will salute them. That is a career I can only dream of. I captained Wendo at Gor Mahia as his captain. With the discipline he has demonstrated over the years, I can only wish him the very best,” he said in an interview with local journalist Sport Radar.
The same goes for Philemeon; he has been instrumental to this team. In the few years he has been the bond holding the team together, and I wish them all the best wherever their path takes them next,” he explained.
Whereas doubts remain over their actual next career path, reports indicate that Otieno could be transitioning to football management, as it remains to be seen what the next phase holds for the combative midfielder of his heydays in Wendo.
Wendo joined the club from Bidco United over a decade ago and rose through the ranks to become a cult hero and a dependable midfield linchpin.
The burly, combative midfielder bows out after more than 11 years of consistent service, having marshalled the team’s midfield in CAF matches, local league engagements, and tournaments across the continent.
