Record champions Gor Mahia resume their Football Kenya Federation Premier League campaign this Sunday, May 3, 2026, with a tough trip to face Kakamega Homeboyz at Mumias Sports Complex, with the match scheduled to start at 3:00 pm in Kakamega County.

Coming off an uplifting win against long-time rivals AFC Leopards in last weekend’s Mashemeji Derby, K’Ogalo will be looking to build on that success and solidify their position at the summit of the standings. Victory in Mumias would open up a nine-point gap at the top, a major boost in their quest to reclaim the league crown.

Their earlier encounter this season was closely fought, with Gor Mahia narrowly securing a 1-0 win thanks to a crucial goal from Alpha Onyango, who also delivered the decisive strike in the derby on Sunday, April 26, 2026,at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Key stats and team news

Historically, Gor Mahia have dominated this matchup. Across 23 league clashes, they have claimed 13 victories, drawn seven times, and lost only three. They have scored 32 goals while conceding just 15, keeping 12 clean sheets, statistics they will hope to build on as they pursue maximum points away from home.

On the squad front, there are positive updates for the coaching staff. Goalkeeper Byrne Omondi featured in the previous match, while defender Sylvester Owino has resumed training, strengthening defensive options. Felix Oluoch remains the only player sidelined as he continues recovering from injury.

Speaking on his return, Sylvester Owino has expressed his elation at returning to the team’s training sessions as the club steps up its push for the league title.

The Harambee Stars ace has been missing in action due to an injury suffered in an away clash against Ulinzi Stars. Despite making the bench for the Mashemeji Derby, Owino did not feature; however, he has since recovered fully and is hopeful to make the squad for the trip to Mumias.

“I am glad to be back. I had been training on the sidelines, but I am now fully back in team training,” he stated.

“It was a little setback, but I am now ready to help the team fight in the remaining matches and ensure we secure the title. I saw my teammates fighting, and while I was happy with the effort, we didn’t always get the results we wanted in some games. But we hung on, and we are still there, ready to fight for the team in the remaining matches,” he added.

With head coach Charles Akonnor now having nearly a full squad available, Gor Mahia approach this decisive stage of the season well-prepared for their title push. Attention now shifts to Mumias, where K’Ogalo will be targeting another crucial three points to reinforce their bid for the championship.
