The Football Kenya Federation (FKF), in partnership with the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has officially rolled out a three-day CAF Safe Stadiums Initiative Workshop aimed at enhancing safety and security standards across the country’s sporting venues.

The workshop, which began today, brings together key stakeholders in Kenyan football with the goal of embedding safety as a fundamental practice in all stadium operations. The initiative comes at a crucial time as Kenya intensifies preparations to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2027) alongside Tanzania and Uganda.

Inside training

The training sessions are being led by CAF Safety and Security experts Xolile Nokuthula and Okey Sylvanus Obi, who are tasked with equipping participants with modern safety protocols and international best practices in stadium management.

According to FKF President Hussein Mohammed, the program is part of a broader strategy to professionalise the sport in Kenya through continuous capacity-building initiatives. The federation emphasised that the knowledge and skills gained during the workshop will not only be vital for AFCON 2027 preparations but will also have a lasting impact on the management of local competitions.

“Beyond AFCON 2027, the training will have a direct impact on local leagues. The knowledge acquired will be essential in creating safe matchday environments, ensuring that every stakeholder feels secure when attending matches in our stadiums,” Mohammed said via a Facebook statement.

FKF leadership wrangles

Meanwhile, a Kiambu High Court has issued a conservatory order blocking the removal of FKF National Executive Committee (NEC) Member Abdullahi Yusuf from office pending the hearing and determination of his application.

Yusuf was suspended alongside FKF President Hussein Mohammed and CEO Dennis Gicheru, who replaced Harold Ndege over the controversial misappropriation of Ksh42 million in funds for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Justice Bahati Mwamuye, on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, has blocked the FKF NEC from suspending Yusuf from office or interfering in any way with his office pending the inter partes hearing and determination of the notice of motion application.

“A conservatory order be and is hereby issued restraining the respondent (National Executive Committee, Football Kenya Federation) from suspending, removing, or in any other way interfering with the petitioner’s (Abdullah) office and position at the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), the National Executive Committee, and related offices or bodies,” Judge Mwamuye ordered.
