As the FKF PL league continues to serve up breathtaking action on the pitch, Shabana fans grab the headlines in the Week 24 clash against Kariobangi Sharks.

The Sunday, March 16, 2026, clash at Gusii Stadium had the promising prospect of moving to third on the log with victory after AFC Leopards had suffered a massive blow on Saturday.

In a rare incident in a football match, a section of the fans temporarily disrupted the tie late as they forced the club’s technical bench to enforce adjustments to the playing unit.

Moments after conceding a second goal with less than ten minutes to go, Shabana’s hitman, Brian Michira, was seen crossing over the pitch’s advertisement boards to engage the fans, who were seemingly dissatisfied with proceedings on the pitch and demanded a defensive change before allowing the game to continue.

Beaten by Sharks

Shabana, who had taken a lead through Michira’s 55th-minute strike, had inexplicably fallen behind after conceding two quick-fire goals.

In fairness, Peter Okidi did grant their wishes, but it didn’t do much to alleviate their suffering, as the tie ended with the home side on the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline.

Whereas the incident highlighted a rarity in football, it shed light on the growing pattern and perhaps heralded an era of fans seeking active involvement with affairs of their beloved clubs.

Ingwe fans storm the pitch

The incident followed a day after a section of irate fans also stormed the pitch in protest and confronted AFC Leopards technical bench members, led by coach Fred Ambani.

The angry fans, who bayed for the coach’s blood, clamoured for his immediate sacking, with the confrontation prompting the intervention of the club chairman, Boniface Ambani.

Speaking after the clash, Okidi was quick to defend his changes to the team ahead of the encounter, instead apportioning the defeat to a mental aspect of the game and individual errors.

Okidi defends changes

“We made the rotations, as there were some players who were tired and needed a rest, while some were coming back from injuries. We played a good game until the final phase, when we conceded the two goals. I can say it was all mental,” he stated.

Shabana FC will next face Gor Mahia on Saturday, with pressure piling as they seek a return to winning ways.
